Our family medicine residency was established in 1969, the first in Ohio and one of the first in the United States. Our physician faculty has more than 65 years of combined experience in residency education, and all are board-certified.
Our three-year program is community-based and offers six resident PGY1 positions annually. As the exclusive residency on our campus, residents receive greater faculty attention and more one-on-one work with attending physicians and faculty for optimum learning.
The family medicine residency is located on the campus of Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio. The hospital offers outstanding care in oncology, rehabilitation, behavioral health/psychiatric services and geriatrics. Also located on the Flower Hospital campus is The Goerlich Center for care of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of elderly dementia, and the Lake Park facility for medical and post-operative rehabilitation services.
Flower Hospital is a member of ProMedica Health System, currently ranked the No. 1 Most Integrated System in the United States by Verispan, a leading national health information data company. This offers family medicine residents rare opportunities to explore specialized pediatric care at Toledo Children’s Hospital, procedural and medical informatics, and the advantages to be found in a comprehensive network of health care resources.
The residency program offered by the Family Physicians Association at Flower Hospital is approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
